Establishment of safety assessment on folk medicines or health foods urged

The national toxicity institute under the Korea Food and Drug Administration said recently that the government needs to establish the safety assessment system on herbal medicines or health foods, as increasing incidence of toxic hepatitis have been mainly caused by prolonged use of folk remedies, alternative therapies and health foods among people.
