Humidifier sterilizers to be designated as quasi-drugs

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Friday that sterilizers in home humidifiers will be designated as quasi-drugs after concluding they caused a mysterious lung disease that resulted in the death of a number of pregnant women earlier this year.

The ministry added it would bring sterilizers under the auspices of the Korea Food and Drug Administration before they enter the market.
