Medication costs top 9.5 trillion won in 2008

The national health insurance spent 9.5 trillion won last year to cover medication costs for its subscribers, up 55 percent compared with 6.1 trillion won in 2004, according to the National Health Insurance Corporation.

The NHIC said that a rising number of Koreans are suffering from an array of diseases, including diabetes and high blood pressure, as they are living longer.
